Nearly Half Of Holiday Shoppers Will Use Mobile

Mobile shopping apps are taking over holiday shopping — even among those who aren’t already using them, according to a newly released survey by AYTM of more than 1,000 U.S. adults.

Among those surveyed, 40 percent said they currently use shopping apps, while another 30 percent of the non-users — 18 percent of all those surveyed — said they would consider using a shopping app this holiday season. That adds up to almost 60 percent of those surveyed who qualify as app-willing.

A total of 77 percent said they use their phones while shopping to find store locations, compare prices, browse circulars and find out about sales in nearby stores. That represents a big jump just from last year, when less than half of shoppers prefered to use websites and apps for holiday shopping research.

Along with the actual shopping help and mobile commerce purchasing, 51 percent of the shoppers surveyed said they were “very interested” in receiving mobile notifications of holiday deals and sales. About 20 percent have already signed up to receive mobile sale alerts.

The survey, which was sponsored by sales-and-deals site Find&Save, also found that 79 percent of shoppers would be motivated to take a photo of a receipt and submit it for a rebate of $20 or less — and in most cases, even if the rebate was $10 or less.
