PayPal Doubles Down on Customer Loyalty

PayPay is launching PayPal Select this week, a push to reward its most loyal and active customers.  The PayPal Select program is an invite only rewards promotion whereby selected customers will get the first chance at certain purchasing opportunities at online retailers, as well as the first crack at customer service professionals, in the unlikely even that there is ever a problem or a line.

Eligible customers will receive an email from PayPal welcoming them to the program, or a direct invite via their next transaction.  Once enrolled, PayPal Select membership is good for a year, at which point membership is reviewed and re-extended or not, presumably in relation to how much one used PayPal.

Initially there was some concern with the rollout of the program, as Twitter users initially thought the email was part of a phishing scam, reports eCommerce Bytes.

“With the amount of @PayPal phishing sites out there, I’m wary of the PayPal Select site. Would have been better if both shared same URL,” Tweeted one new Select user.

The service is still onboarding merchants for participation.  So far the list includes Target, Wayfair, Overstock, PacSun.com, Footlocker, FinishLine.com, Puritan’s Pride, Cooking.com, BestBuy.com, and Neiman Marcus.
