TGI Fridays Pushes Pay By QR Code

TGI Friday’s wants to help consumers get in and out of their restaurants a little faster, and is using QR codes to do it.  As part of a series of upgrades to facilities in select locations across the nation, Friday’s has added scannable QR codes to its bills.  At the end of the meal patrons can pay by using their phone’s camera as a scanner, paying and going.

No interactions with a flair bedecked waiter or waitress is required.

The inaugural location was launched in the U.K.. Manchester’s Piccadilly Station location is the first Friday’s location with the express aim of serving main meals to visitors within 10 minutes of their order .  The location also offers free Wi-Fi, power sockets and many USB charging stations as well as the chain’s first open floor plan kitchen so patrons can watch as their food is prepared.

“It’s a great pleasure to be opening the first of Fridays’ ‘fast track’ restaurants, and it couldn’t be a more perfect location than in one of the busiest railway stations in the country,” Jane Sadler, general manager for TGI Friday’s Manchester Piccadilly noted.

The move to bring QR enhanced speed to on-the-go diners will not be limited to the U.K.—Friday’s New York quick service restaurant is set to launch later this month.

“I would fully expect that U.S. customers would appreciate the same level of service to meet their technological and mobile needs,” said Sheryl Kingstone, research director with Boston-based Yankee Group, reports Mobile Commerce Daily.
