@WalmartLabs Scoops UP Fashion App Stylr

@WalmartLabs – the mega-retailer’s Silicon Valley-based R&D and innovation hub – has just made its first acquisition from New York’s so-called Silicon Alley in the form of fashion app Stylr.

Stylr is Walmart R&D’s 13th overall acquisition.

“As we continue to integrate digital and physical retail to create new and unique experiences for customers, we’re thrilled to add Stylr to our mobile team. Over half of Walmart smartphone users have used their device in-store to assist with their shopping, and with 80 percent of our customers under the age of 35 owning a smartphone, we expect this to grow dramatically. We are excited about the opportunity to serve these customers with indispensable digital tools that bring the convenience of online shopping into our physical stores and integrate our online and offline experiences to enable our customers to shop anytime, anywhere,” Thomas, senior vice president of mobile and digital at Walmart.com, noted in the blog announcement.

Founded by two Stanford education engineers, Stylr gives users the changes to flip through virtual clothing racks from a tablet or smartphone.  Additionally, Stylr users can then reserve the desired outfit, in the desired size at the desired retailer, and reserve it at the store directly from the app’s interface.

Users of the Stylr app already have the option of shopping at such well known retailers as Abercrombie & Fitch, American Apparel, American Eagle, Banana Republic, Coach, Gap, Guess, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Steve Madden and The Limited among others.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the tone of the press release indicated that this acquisition is more of an acqui-hire that hopes to bring the talents of founders, Eytan Daniyalzade and Berk Atikoglu into the Walmart fold.
