Halfway into the PGA Tour’s first FedExCup Playoff game, the last thing a devoted golf fan wants to do is walk away and miss a great shot — all because they wanted a refreshment break.
That’s why MasterCard is bringing its Qkr! with MasterPass to the ninth fairway during The Barclays that’s taking place in Edison, New Jersey. MasterCard’s contactless payments tech will enable spectators to not only use its latest payment tech, but also provides a 10 percent discount at the MasterCard Club at the event that begins Aug. 27.
The Qkr! app allows MasterPass users to directly pay for food and drinks at the event using their Android or iOS devices, and they can do so in a fast, secure payment method that takes just seconds to complete — leaving more room for time on the green.
“At a tournament, no one wants to miss seeing their favorite golfer because they were waiting in line to buy a drink or a snack,” said Matt Barr, group head of North America Emerging Payments for MasterCard, in the press release. “That’s why we are taking what we’ve done with our bank, retail and technology partners and bringing it to The Barclays. We’re enhancing the fan experience by letting fans tap or click to pay — more quickly and more securely — so they can get back to enjoying the action on the course.”
The Barclays, which is the first of the four FedExCup Playoff tournaments, is working to bring more advanced payment tech — like Qkr! with MasterPass — to help fans complete their transactions faster as they move along the course. This technology was also seen at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

We’re excited this technology will be available at The Barclays.”
