Australian shoppers will soon get a test of Woolworths’ first Apple Phone app, according to CNET.
Woolworths has been a longtime app enthusiast; the grocery store chain quickly jumped into the app-based shopping world with products for both Android and iOS that allowed shoppers to create very specialized shopping lists.
Among features available, users can sort lists by aisle number for a particular store, find opening hours and track specials in-store and scan items from their pantry to add to the list.
“If you’ve created shopping lists within the iPhone app, you can access those through the watch,” said Katrina Colpo, digital marketing manager at Woolworths. “From your wrist, you can see all the lists that you’ve created for the different items that you need, and as you tap into the shopping list, you can see all of the items that you want to purchase. They’re ordered in aisle order for that particular store that you want to shop in.”
While the Watch app is ultimately meant to be a view port for the smartphone apps – meaning the iPhone itself is still needed to organize lists before you’re at the supermarket – the firm remains confident that the service will still be key, particularly for those shoppers whose attention is split between kids, food and god only know what else.
“If you can have the phone in your handbag and you can literally be looking at your shopping list from your wrist, that means your hands are free to be dealing with your trolley and getting the groceries off the shelf,” Colpo told CNET.
And Woolworths’ vision is bigger than their Apple Watch app. The retailer is currently testing iBeacon technology to see if it can improve location services in its stores.
The Woolies Shop App is available for download on the iPhone and will work in tandem with the Apple Watch when it arrives in Australia on April 24.
