Dick’s Sporting Goods is teaming up with Instacart for same-day delivery at 150 store locations, Instacart announced in a press release on Friday (Dec. 18).

The service went live on Instacart’s platform this week and is intended to help shoppers get through the holiday shopping season without having to go into physical stores. The pandemic-fueled demand for delivery, compounded with busier-than-usual holiday eCommerce sales, has lengthened delivery times for FedEx, UPS and USPS.

The program is available in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

"People across the country have embraced outdoor activities this year as a way to stay active and safe, and we've seen a meaningful increase in demand for sporting goods across our marketplace,” said Chris Rogers, vice president of retail for Instacart.

He added that in some instances, people can receive merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods in one hour, “whether it's a last-minute holiday gift” or “gear for your weekend activities."

Instacart has partnered with more than 500 national and local retailers in several sectors, including grocery items, beauty products, wellness merchandise and electronics. Delivery is available from nearly 40,000 stores in more than 5,500 cities across all 50 states and Canada, the company said.

“Our technology solutions have been able to deliver products to our athletes, however, wherever and whenever they want. By adding Instacart, we give our athletes another same-day option, which is fast and reliable delivery to their homes," said Joe Pietropola, senior vice president of eCommerce at DICK'S Sporting Goods.

Digital delivery platforms like Instacart, DoorDash and Target’s Shipt have become important components in the digital retail and delivery landscape amid the pandemic. Instacart recently partnered with Big Lots, Petco, Staples, Best Buy and Sephora.
