Instacart Expands Delivery Service To Montreal—In French

Instacart, an online grocery platform in North America, has launched its service in Montreal — and in French. The company already operates in the U.S. and Canada, but until now has been only available in English.

The new feature will mean that the delivery and pickup service will be fully accessible in French to customers, shoppers and retailers. The service will deliver from Costco, Les Aliments M&M and Walmart stores, according to a press release.

Instacart, which offers both a website and a mobile app, plans to expand its service to Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Gatineau, all in the Quebec province. It will also deliver from Pharmaprix and Sephora in the future.

The San Francisco-based company said it is now available in all 10 Canadian provinces and can serve more than one million Quebec households.

“With today’s launch, we’re taking another step toward deepening our commitment to Canada,” said Chris Rogers, vice president of retail at Instacart. He added that during the pandemic, Instacart has served millions of Canadians by delivering groceries and other essentials from more than 35 retailers countrywide.

Costco Canada is “thrilled to expand same-day delivery of Costco products to Quebec,” said Pierre Riel, senior vice president, country manager. “By expanding our relationship with Instacart, our members will have even more ways to get the most out of their membership.”

“M&M Food Market has offered online shopping for many years, and our partnership with Instacart is a natural extension of our business,” said Derek Bowles, director of store operations at Les Aliments M&M. “Same-day delivery is not only convenient, it’s a big time-saver — and we’re looking forward to giving Quebec residents even more access to our food by bringing it to their doorsteps.”

To access Instacart’s French-language experience, customers must have the preferred language on their web browser or phone set to French-Canadian. An Instacart shopper will pick out, pack up and deliver the order within the customer’s designated timeframe, the release said.

Earlier this month, Instacart announced that it would add the online meat shop ButcherBox to its marketplace, so that consumers can order meat directly from Instacart with no in-store pickup required.
