Ride-hailing giant Uber and prescription delivery firm Nimble have expanded their partnership to launch on-demand delivery services in Chicago, IL, and Atlanta, GA, as announced in a press release on Thursday (March 25).
With the partnership, Uber Eats users in both cities will be able to order prescription refills, fill new scripts and transfer prescriptions from their local pharmacies directly on the Uber Eats app. Nimble then coordinates fulfillment through its pharmacy network, and Uber Eats delivers the prescription in as quickly as an hour.
The press release noted that the service does not extend to controlled substances or prescriptions covered by government healthcare programs like Medicaid, Medicare or TRICARE.
This news comes just one day after Uber announced its partnership with medication delivery firm ScriptDrop, which will initially bring Uber’s prescription delivery program to 37 states across the U.S., with plans for further expansion in the works.
“People are always looking for ways to conveniently and safely get the things they need — whether that’s food, essential supplies or medicine — and we’re proud that Uber is now playing a role in bringing prescriptions right to customers’ doorsteps,” said Robert Kellman, head of Midwest policy for Uber.
Uber’s continued partnership with Nimble helps the companies support local pharmacies and expand their customer bases, while offering consumers “on-demand prescription delivery at a time when they need it most,” Nimble CEO and Founder Talha Sattar said in the press release. There are more than 600 independent pharmacies in Illinois, as well as over 700 in Georgia.

The prescription delivery service has already launched in New York City, Miami and several California cities after an initial test launch in Texas.
