Last.app, the Barcelona-based startup, has received 2.2 million euros ($2.5 million) to expand its restaurant management platform, the company announced Thursday (Jan. 13).

The company’s software was developed to simplify the day-to-day operations and management of restaurants.

“With this round we begin a new phase, whose main mission will be to mass-market an ecosystem of unique and in continuous improvement tools in the market,” said Eric Nikolic, co-founder and CEO of Last.app, in a statement. “The current focus is Spain, but once the foundations for growth have been laid out, we will replicate the model in other countries.”

The round was led by All Iron Ventures, a Spanish financier, with support from Bynd, a Portuguese venture capital fund, and several unnamed business angels.

Last.app is on a mission to consolidate its position in the Spanish market and eventually expand the software globally.

Founded by former Glovo employees, the on-demand courier service that picks up and delivers products ordered through its mobile app, Last.app develops and markets software designed to make it easier to manage hospitality businesses, restaurants and ghost kitchens.

As demand for food delivery has soared since the COVID-19 pandemic began, fulfilling this need allows apps to embed themselves deeply in their users’ routines.

Food delivery services that bring meals to consumers with speed and convenience have the opportunity to quickly become indispensable.

Some apps, including Brazil’s Movile commerce platform, Singapore- and Indonesia-based Grab and Indonesia’s Gojek, have been able to parlay this relationship into other categories to become super apps that fulfill the bulk of their digital needs. But none in the United States have been able to follow in their footsteps.
