Payments technology startup Shift4 Payments has acquired eCommerce firm 3dcart to create a global, “unified commerce ecosystem,” the company announced in a Thursday (Nov. 5) press release.

“We have an ambitious vision to connect the world’s commerce, and this acquisition is a critical milestone on that journey,” Shift4 Payments CEO Jared Isaacman said in the announcement. Shift4 Payments services businesses with its suite of multichannel payment products.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the 3dcart team to the Shift4 family. By combining this truly impressive, turnkey ecommerce solution with the Shift4 Payments platform, we can deliver a best-in-class omnichannel experience,” said Isaacman in the press release.

3dcart provides businesses with the tools to create an ecommerce website and market and sell products and services online. Included in its offerings are also a marketplace featuring third-party developers and other experts and associates. The platform currently services over 14,000 businesses in a variety of industries.

“We are thrilled to be joining Shift4 and to enhance their end-to-end payments solution with our robust ecommerce platform,” said 3dcart CEO Gonzalo Gil. “We have created a world-class ecommerce solution and helped tens of thousands of businesses grow their online presence globally.”

Shift4 Payments, which counts among its clients KFC, Hilton, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Kohler, filed an initial public offering (IPO) that caught the attention of many in May, raising about $345 million.

Weeks after the IPO, the firm rolled out a product that lets clients offer customers the ability to pay by scanning QR codes on their mobile devices.

Shift4 Payments said its technology helps power more than 350 software providers in a range of industries. In 2019, the company said, it securely processed over $200 billion in payments for more than 200,000 businesses.
