Southern Glazer’s Rolls Out Business-To-Customer Digital Team

Beverage alcohol distributor Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has rolled out a new Business-to-Customer eCommerce workforce, according to a Tuesday (Dec. 1) announcement.

“In today’s everchanging sales landscape, Southern Glazer’s has invested in a business unit that is poised to deliver innovative solutions for the evolving eCommerce needs of our customers,” Southern Glazer’s Chief Commercial Officer John Wittig said in the announcement.

The team will be tasked with offering programming and promotions, “operational excellence,” category analysis, online content and performance management in eCommerce throughout channels and with digital merchants and beverage alcohol delivery platforms.

The workforce complements the Business-to-Business eCommerce functions that the firm has built out via its Proof platform that offers its trade customers digital ordering and account management. It will report to Chief Growth Officer David Chaplin.

“We are confident that by investing in best in class talent and building our capabilities in the Business-to-Customer eCommerce space, we will add great value to our supplier partners in a ‘must win’ channel, while providing customers with a suite of services that is unmatched in our industry,” Chaplin said in the announcement.

Business-to-Customer eCommerce Vice President Nathan Mansperger, who comes to Southern Glazer’s with over 13 years of experience in the beverage alcohol space, leads the Business-to-Customer eCommerce workforce.

Mansperger’s most recent role was chief growth officer at beverage alcohol eCommerce provider Provi. Before that time, Mansperger had positions of rising responsibility with Anheuser-Busch InBev. He has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in addition to a master’s of business administration from Western Carolina University.

For its part, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, a multi-generational, family-owned firm, has operations in 44 U.S. states in addition to the District of Columbia and Canada.

The news comes as COVID-19 has brought a spike in eCommerce wine orders. Wine Insiders’ orders jumped 250-300 percent in the period of March to May in contrast to the typical volume for that time of year.
