Perfect Corp. Teams With MAC Cosmetics, SoPost

Beauty tech platform Perfect Corp., beauty brand MAC Cosmetics and online product sampling platform SoPost are getting together on a personalized product sampling experience for MAC Cosmetics’ Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, according to a Thursday (Jan. 20) press release.

The collaboration brings together augmented reality (AR) virtual try-on and personalized artificial intelligence (AI) shade matching, along with physical product sampling, bridging the gap between the digital and physical worlds and allowing shoppers to make better decisions, the release stated.

“Consumers continue to turn to product sampling as a means for making more confident purchase decisions,” said Perfect Corp. Founder and CEO Alice Chang in the release. “We’re excited to use AI and AR virtual try-on as a way to best match MAC customers with foundation samples that best fit for their skin tone in order to boost consumer purchase confidence and help companies better distribute physical samples.”

The personalized product matching experience will operate through social platforms Facebook and Instagram as well as retailer and brand websites, the release stated.

“The growth of virtual try-on is a trend that we don’t see going away, and we’re thrilled to be working with the teams at MAC and Perfect Corp. to be taking the consumer experience a step further with samples delivered in-home,” said SoPost Founder and CEO Jonathan Grubin in the release.

Opt-in customers for MAC Cosmetics, starting in the U.K., will get an email with a unique link to “Claim a Studio Fix Fluid Foundation Sample,” then access the product matching, virtual try-on experience through the landing page tied to that link, according to the release.

Customers will receive an automatic shade match from 67 shades with the option to claim the suggested sample product, then be prompted to fill in their shipping information, the release stated.

“Our next-generation VTO-driven SoPost experience combines shade-matching with sampling into one seamless customer journey,” said MAC Cosmetics U.K. and Ireland Vice President and General Manager Fiona Sainty in the release. “[It allows] for a trial-driven product like foundation to become more accessible than ever.”

In September, Perfect partnered with Coty on a multi-channel agreement to embed AR and AI experiences into Coty’s beauty brands.
