Cover Genius Names New Execs

InsurTech platform Cover Genius has named two new executives to its team as it expands its U.S. presence, the company announced in a press release emailed to PYMNTS.

Darcy Shapiro, a licensed attorney, has been named chief operating officer. Shapiro, who formerly led the company’s insurance partnerships and legal department in North America, Canada and Latin America, will combine her general insurance experience with her legal and compliance knowledge, according to the release.

Amir Massoudi will be the platform’s first global chief revenue officer. Massoudi, Cover Genius’ former senior vice president of Analytics and Partner Services, will lead partner integrations and account management, as well as sales and growth initiatives, the release stated.

“Darcy and Amir have played an integral part in our success,” said Cover Genius CEO and Co-Founder Angus McDonald in the release. “… We are extremely proud to have them join our executive team as we continue to extend our global insurance capability and reach into more insurance lines.”

Cover Genius now has “millions” of active insurance policies, both commercial and personal, in over 60 countries, McDonald said in the release, covering sectors including pet, travel, health, product and marine cargo.

The company’s partner network includes eBay, Wayfair, Booking Holdings and Intuit Quickbooks, as well as other global retail, travel, FinTech, payments, logistics, auto, mobility, Software-as-a-Service and property companies, the release stated.

The pandemic has accelerated online shopping, but accidents of all kinds can happen — something Cover Genius aims to address with its service.

“As consumers look for peace of mind for their purchases, consumers are also looking for protection — and they don’t want another thing to worry about in the current uncertain climate,” Cover Genius Vice President of Partnerships Peter Paine told PYMNTS in a February interview. “These days, peace of mind is top of mind for everybody.”

In a study done in conjunction with Cover Genius, PYMNTS found that 32.7 percent of customers would make more online purchases, and spend more per purchase, if they could add insurance coverage at checkout.

The press release also noted that Cover Genius also named Julio Castellón as senior vice president of Partnerships for Latin America to expand the platform’s partner network in the region.
