Next Meta Exec Rumored to Exit Is PR Head Andrea Schubert

Andrea Schubert, Meta’s communications and public relations head for augmented reality (AR), is rumored to be weighing a move to Apple, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter.

“Apple is starting to get its ducks in a row,” Gurman wrote, referring to the iPhone maker’s planned 2022 launch of its mixed-reality headset and the timing of Apple’s supposed hiring of Schubert.

It’s been some seven years since Apple launched a headline-making product in a new category. It “makes sense” Apple would go after Schubert for public relations, Gurman wrote, especially as it gets ready for its major debut in a division that’s been dominated by Meta.

Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 was among the most popular holiday gift items, and its app downloads just became the No. 1 free app on Google Play, The Verge reported.

Apple hasn’t said too much about its mixed-reality product, but if the rumors about the hiring of Schubert turn out to be true, perhaps that will change, and the content will flow by having a seasoned AR/VR/AI wordsmith on the payroll.

According to her LinkedIn page, Schubert has served as the communications director at Meta’s Reality Labs (Consumer Hardware: Augmented Reality, Research and XR) since March 2016. She was the leader of the Augmented Reality (AR), XR, Portal and Research communications teams at Reality Labs.

She also was the communications manager for Oculus and the Oculus product communications lead from 2016-2020. She was involved in the launch, strategy and daily communication of all Oculus headsets from 2016-2020.

Facebook and Oculus were among her many high-level clients while she was the director at the OutCast Agency from 2010-2016.
