The move comes after Freightos founder Zvi Schreiber stepped down from his role as CEO in January to pursue other entrepreneurial interests. Schreiber is now the founder of a “stealth mode startup company,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

Pinillos was appointed interim CEO in January and was later selected to be CEO after a search process that evaluated internal and external candidates, Freightos said in a Thursday (March 12) press release.

Udo Lange, chairman of the board of Freightos, said in the release that Pinillos will lead the company “through its next phase of growth.”

“Throughout his tenure as CFO and interim CEO, Pablo has demonstrated a deep understanding of our business, as well as the strategic and operational discipline necessary to scale Freightos in a complex global market,” Lange said in the release. “His experience in high-growth technology environments and his proven leadership within Freightos gave the board unanimous confidence in his ability to lead the company, shape its next phase of profitable growth, and continue advancing our vision for digitalizing global freight.”

Before that, Pinillos served as CFO of blockchain software company CoinCover, CFO of DevOps software company Bitrise, and vice president of strategic growth and business transformation at analytics and data integration solution provider Qlik, per the release. At Qlik, he played a key role in supporting the company’s initial public offering (IPO) and subsequent acquisition by a private equity firm, the release said.

“Leading this talented team is a privilege, and I am fully committed to the monumental task of digitalizing international freight to improve global trade,” Pinillos said in the release. “My focus remains on disciplined execution, delivering on our shorter-term commitments, including reaching financial break even in Q4 of this year, while positioning us for long-term growth.”

Freightos’ vendor-neutral digital pricing, booking and procurement platform brings together airlines, ocean carriers, freight forwarders, importers and exporters, according to the release.

Pinillos said in the release that the company plans to deepen its engagement with customers and expand into ocean and procurement management.

PYMNTS reported in February that Freightos has been a persistent champion of digital transformation in the freight sector and has gained traction, although it remains unprofitable.

Freightos has begun a search for a CFO to succeed Pinillos in that role, per the release.
