Capital One has finally climbed aboard the Apple-Pay-hoopla bandwagon — and it’s taking the opportunity to tout its own new digital wallet and its sponsorship of the Orange Bowl as well in a TV commercial that first aired on New Year’s Eve during the Orange Bowl telecast.
The No. 4 U.S. credit-card issuer follows MasterCard, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America in rolling out a TV spot supporting Apple Pay. In Capital One’s case, the usual parade of customers waving an iPhone 6 to pay at checkout are also using the Capital One Wallet app to keep track of their purchases.

What’s most obviously missing from the 30-second spot is the star power of Capital One’s perennial pitchman, Samuel L. Jackson. The bank hasn’t said whether Jackson will show up in future Capital One/Apple commercials. Maybe they’re just waiting for Apple Pay to explode.
