OnPay Links Payroll Tech To Accountants

Payroll solution provider OnPay is introducing a partner program to link its technology to accountants.

Accounting Today reported this week that OnPay is rolling out its Partner Program for accountants and bookkeepers, enabling these professionals to obtain special pricing when using OnPay payroll for their own small business clients. The program also provides accountants with a client dashboard and additional features to manage their small business services, including letting them choose to bill clients for payroll services, or to have OnPay bill the small business directly.

In an interview with the publication, OnPay Founder and CEO Jesse Burgess said the company has maintained close ties with accountants, noting that the third customer OnPay ever secured was an accountant in need of a payroll solution for their own small business customers.

“Accountants have been part of our story the whole time,” Burgess said. “We’re just launching a more intentional approach to working with accountants and trying to position ourselves where we can bring value to their practice, especially with the rise of what people might call digital accounting firms or tech-enabled accounting firms. We really feel like we fit into their technology stack really well, and how they’re positioning themselves and marketing themselves.”

The program supports automatic integration between OnPay and QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Xero, as well as various permission levels to allow users to customize how much access their small business clients can gain into the payroll portal.

Mark McKee, OnPay president and chief operating officer, told the publication that the Partner Program also reflects the increasing importance of accountants playing a strategic role with their small business clients.

“Instead of being involved with their client once a quarter or a couple of times a quarter or maybe once a year, now they can be involved with this customer on even a weekly basis,” he said. “Because they facilitated that relationship, now they get to be top of mind with that end user on a weekly basis, which is a great opportunity.”
