OpenTable—pioneers in the field of mobile reservations—have acquired Copilot, and analytics service that allows restaurants to track their business activity versus that of their competitors.
“The Copilot technology and service, which is powered by POS data and leverages local market comparisons, is currently being piloted in San Francisco and Los Angeles and we’re excited to begin offering this free service to our restaurant customers in other markets in the near future,” OpenTable wrote in its blog post announcing the acquisition.
The new acquisition aligns with OpenTable’s recent moves to branck out into more diversified mobile services. Earlier this year, the app was testing a payments function what would allow users to pay for the meals they had booed through the service.
Apart from direct comparisons, the Copilot app can also use POS data to determine the relative cost of an empty seat to a restaurant.
Financial details of the deal are not yet available. It is also not known what the status of Priceline’s reported plans to acquire OpenTable.
