Grubhub Adds Convenience Items From CVS Pharmacy to Its Marketplace

Grubhub added CVS Pharmacy to its marketplace.

With this addition, the online mobile food ordering and delivery platform now offers thousands of convenience items from more than 6,000 CVS locations across 48 states, Grubhub said in a Thursday (Feb. 22) press release.

“We’re proud to further establish our convenience offering with CVS Pharmacy — a beloved household name — and give customers more access to thousands of items from a store near them,” Ariella Kurshan, senior vice president of growth and marketing at Grubhub, said in the release.

The convenience items offered through this new collaboration include wellness, beauty and household products, according to the release.

CVS Pharmacy joins convenience items retailers Gopuff, Rite Aid and 7-Eleven on the Grubhub marketplace, the release said.

Beyond the convenience product category, Grubhub also features more than 355,000 merchants in 4,000 U.S. cities, per the release.

Restaurant aggregators like Grubhub have been expanding beyond food delivery by adding new features and finding innovative ways to drive loyalty, PYMNTS reported in December.

For example, DoorDash launched a co-branded credit card in partnership with Chase; Uber launched a “Store Pickup” feature that allows consumers to send delivery drivers to collect pickup orders from retailers and bring them to the person’s home or a gift recipient; and Grubhub brought Amazon’s frictionless checkout system to convenience stores at colleges and universities.

In October, Adam Herbert, who at the time was senior director of Grubhub Onsite, sales and partnerships, told PYMNTS that the company is reaching new customers and driving sales by delivering to guests at hotels that do not offer dining options.

“Knowing not everyone has a way to go into town and grab a bite to eat, we’re making it easy for guests to order from local spots and get food delivered without having to leave the hotel,” Herbert said.

Restaurant aggregators are adding new offerings at a time when consumers have grown more cautious about ordering delivery due to their ongoing financial challenges.

Fifty-eight percent of off-premise customers pick up restaurant meals to save on delivery fees, and 48% said inflation has made them more likely to choose pickup over delivery, according to “Connected Dining: Rising Costs Push Consumers Toward Pickup,” a PYMNTS Intelligence report.
