Cryptocurrency payments have taken flight at Fast Private Jet in Italy, with one-third of bookings being paid using digital currency since the company introduced the payment option last year.

The charter-flight company became Italy’s first private jet provider to accept payments in major cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, XRP and others. Most major commercial airlines and private jet operators have not yet made the leap into crypto, Fast Private Jet said in a press release on Tuesday (Nov. 23).

“The use of leading-edge technological instruments has always been a key component of our corporate vision,” Fast Private Jet founder and CEO Mauro De Rosa said. “This readiness to adapt to the quickly evolving technological landscape of the 21st century has allowed the company to distinguish itself, while enjoying significant growth, in today’s global aviation industry.”

Fast Private Jet posted the biggest cryptocurrency transaction worldwide — over $500,000 — for a single private jet flight. The company offers a large fleet of world-class light jets, including high-end charter-flight solutions for personal and business travel. It’s also connected to a wide network of select global air-taxi companies.

Travel services are also offered in addition to jet rentals, with Fast Private Jet handling all aspects of the experience, in the air and on the ground. Other services include helicopter charters, VIP transfers, catering, chauffeuring, concierge services and special event planning.

In a recent interview with PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster, Fast Private Jet’s De Rosa said that the decision to accept crypto for payments was more of a gut instinct than an actual business need. But he said he wouldn’t mind turning his entire cash flow crypto in the future.

“The decision why we began to take it was really mixed,” he told Webster. “And it was from a gut feeling. I thought, ‘Wake up, something’s moving.’ I think, at the moment, we’re in the most exciting period in the last 40 years. It’s an economic revolution. We need to do something. And then we came up with this idea of accepting cryptocurrency.”
