BitPay Adds ApeCoin, Euro Coin to Wallet

BitPay, the world’s biggest provider of crypto payment services, will be supporting two new cryptocurrencies, ApeCoin and Euro Coin, a press release said.

Consumers will now be able to buy, store, swap and spend the coins within the BitPay Wallet app.

Businesses using BitPay will also be able to accept the coins as payment, too.

Gucci will be the first merchant to take ApeCoin through BitPay, which will add to the 10 crypto coins it accepts at most of its stores.

ApeCoin is the native token for the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, which has grown massively popular in the last year or so, and is a subsidiary of Yuga Labs.

The token will be the primary one used across the Ape ecosystem, which has games and communities of various kinds.

APE holders can spend with BitPay merchants and will also now be able to turn their ApeCoin into cash instantly and buy gift cards for retailers.

“We added ApeCoin and Euro Coin because customers of our luxury merchant partners asked for it,” said Stephen Pair, BitPay CEO. “They asked, and we delivered.”

Euro Coin is a euro-backed stablecoin, issued by Circle, providing instant access to euros across borders, with low-cost transaction fees and fast settlement.

PYMNTS wrote that the Bored Ape Yacht Club earlier this year had plans to generate around $300 million in cryptocurrency through selling land in the metaverse.

The report said the sale, going forward in April, was likely to be the biggest-ever launch of NFTs. Yuga Labs was selling NFT deeds for at least 55,000 plots of land in the metaverse Otherside game.

The sale saw deedholders getting rights to land that cost 305 ApeCoin, which came out to more than $6,000 at that time.
