dLocal Will Let Rappi Customers Use Brazil’s Pix System

Rappi

Latin American superapp Rappi has expanded its partnership with payment platform dLocal to allow Rappi customers in Brazil to use the country’s Pix payment system for purchases.

As the companies noted in their announcement Tuesday (Feb. 1), Pix adoption growth rate is among the fastest in the world, now representing 72% of transactions in Brazil, with more than 100 million people using the system since its launch.

The partnership will now let Rappi’s Brazilian customers use dLocal’s payments platform to “make purchases with local credit card payments — including Mastercard, Visa and American Express cards issued by local banks — at the moment the service is available for ordering in restaurants, eCommerce and cash.”

This service will be available across the entirety of the app in the next six months, the companies said. It marks the first time Rappi will be using this alternative payment method.

“dLocal has been a trusted partner for our operation in Latin America over the last couple of years,” said Carlos Ayalde, global head of payments at Rappi. “By offering one of the latest payment innovations in Brazil, such as PIX, we are taking the next step in our partnership to further improve our customer experience and offer localized payment methods focused on the consumer preferences and habits.”

As PYMNTS noted last month, Rappi has attained super app status because its service delivers restaurant meals, groceries and consumer goods while also offering an entertainment hub with games, music and live events.

Earlier this year, dLocal launched a partnership with Arcos Dorados, the world’s largest independent McDonald’s franchisee, to power in-app payments for its fast-food restaurants across Uruguay.

The collaboration will give people using the McDonald’s app for food delivery the ability to complete purchases with credit cards and debit cards. The platform provides customers with a simplified user experience while also being able to process payment volumes at scale as Arcos Dorados expands delivery services throughout Uruguay.
