It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, But What about at the CFPB?

April 6, 2011

Although debate over the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s budget and governance has been stormy, the forecast for the organization calls for sunny skies, at least according to Dan Munz.

“Last month, we blogged about our commitment to making sure it’s always ‘sunny’ at the CFPB,” he wrote in a blog entry on the CFPB site. “We have already begun posting Professor Elizabeth Warren’s calendar online every month – which, it turns out, is more complicated than you might think. We’ve shared analysis and raw data about how the Credit CARD Act has impacted consumers. We even launched this website by responding directly to your suggestions.”

He went on to report that some of the Bureau’s leaders, including Elizabeth Warren, will be meeting with open government organizations to “get their ideas about effective ways to inform members of the public about the activities of their government.” Groups scheduled to be meeting with CFPB representatives include Public Citizen, OpenTheGovernment.org, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Judicial Watch, the Sunlight Foundation, the Project on Government Accountability, and OMB Watch.

“That’s a lot of transparency brainpower in one room, and we’re eager to hear what this group has to say,” continued Munz in the blog entry.

He also encouraged blog readers to send in their ideas on how “to keep it sunny here at the CFPB.” Click here to read the full CFPB blog entry.
