Starbucks has announced an expansion of its mobile payments programs with details on its integration with Square, a digital tipping functionality for its mobile app, and Passbook support.
Beginning in November, Square Wallet users will be able to pay in Starbucks stores, and will also be able to find Starbucks locations using a Square directory. The Starbucks-Square partnership, which included a $25 million investment in Square by Starbucks, was first revealed in early August.
Starbucks’ existing mobile app will come with digital tipping enablement starting in summer of 2013. Tipping will also be enabled through the Square Wallet.
The coffee company has also integrated its mobile app with Apple’s Passbook, which will allow for Starbucks Cards to appear instantly when Passbook users enter Starbucks retail locations.
