Valencia Transportation Launches NFC Ticketing Service

Orange, a mobile network operator, has teamed up with the transportation and infrastructure department in Valencia to launch an NFC-based ticketing service, reported NFC World. The service is expected to launch before the end of 2013 in Alicante. The NFC ticketing scheme will be introduced across Valencia transportation in different stages after the pilot.

    Transfermobile has developed the supporting mobile app, which will be linked to customer’s credit card accounts. The mobile ticketing will be integrated on the town buses, trains and trams.

    Alberto Anton, NFC manager at Orange, told NFC World, “The project is a landmark not only for Spain but for Europe to prove the potential for NFC in one of the most advanced areas of development in Spain and Europe. Orange will launch the service in a great number of NFC devices.”
