Square Cash for iPhone now allows you to send money to your friends nearby over Bluetooth Low Energy. According to Cash, the top request was being able to pay friends sitting at your dinner table without adding their email address.
Square Cash originally started as a tool to pay your friend via email, but was quickly modified and expanded by creating a mobile application. The app also gave you the option to send your friends money via text.
Note that the application itself doesn’t actually send money via email, text or Bluetooth, but only signals your intent to send, much like similar apps like Venmo – but with a much easier interface. However, unlike Venmo, Cash does not ask you to cash out after a certain number of transactions before being able to funnel money to your account.
With Bluetooth capabilities, you can forget typing in your friend’s name to send them money. Simply type in the amount you want to send, tap their name, and hit “Send”.
