Wirecard Expands mPOS Payment Capabilities

Germany-based financial services and technology services company Wirecard is making point of sale payments more intelligent.

The company announced that it is going to expand the range of functions for POS terminals with an intelligent payment interface that will enable the processing of payments from various retailers via a single POS terminal. The system operates by routing a payment transaction from a POS terminal directly to the appropriate retailer’s acceptance point, after which the payment is posted to the retailer’s bank account.

Wirecard will be unveiling the application system in the spring of 2015 at various airport self-service bag drop locations. These automated baggage services work by identifying any additional or excess baggage, at which point passengers — depending on the respective airline’s policy — may be obligated to pay a direct fee; this payment would be processed via Wirecard’s new mPOS interface.

As stated in the press release, the Wirecard Group supports retailers and service providers in the acceptance of electronic payments from all sales channels: online, mobile and/or at the physical point of sale. In addition to offering risk management solutions, Wirecard handles international payment acceptance and processing through the implementation of a global multichannel platform. The company also presides over payment technologies for cashless payment transactions, fixed and portable card terminals, and customer retention schemes like vouchers and mobile loyalty point programs, as well as gift cards and couponing.
