The Pay+ solution, announced by the document/workflow automation company Thursday (Oct. 15), is part of Tungsten’s InvoiceAgility+ offering and is designed to combine accounts payable (AP) and payments into a single, “invoice-aware” workflow.

“Tungsten has long helped organizations understand, automate, and govern the documents that drive their operations,” Danielle Weinblatt, Tungsten Automation’s chief product officer.

“Pay+ is the next logical step: it completes the invoice-to-pay journey by bringing that document intelligence directly into payment orchestration. Invoice data intelligence gives every payment the context it needs, so finance teams can make smarter decisions about timing, rail, risk, and working capital, while maintaining the control and compliance they expect from Tungsten.”

With Pay+, the release said, each transaction is driven by the underlying invoice data, such as information about the supplier, terms, relationship history, and risk profile, making each payment “into a smarter financial decision.”

The release added that Pay+ uses context-aware payments orchestration to automate pay run creation, execution, and reconciliation from one control panel.

“This helps finance teams optimize working capital, making more informed decisions about when and how they pay, while maintaining the visibility, controls, and governance required for complex payment operations,” Tungsten said.

The launch of Pay+ comes two weeks after the debut of InvoiceAgility+, which is designed to use agentic artificial intelligence (AI) to provide end-to-end invoice-to-pay automation, putting things such as global compliance and supplier connectivity into one solution.

These products come at a time when AP technology is “being judged on how well it connects to the systems businesses already use, giving developers, IT teams and implementation specialists a larger role in payment-platform decision,” as PYMNTS wrote recently.

The July PYMNTS Intelligence Tracker “Who Decides Now: How Developers and Tech Teams Are Reshaping the Future of AP Payments” found that difficulties integrating with existing systems was the leading AP automation concern after cost.

The research found that 49% of finance leaders mentioned integration troubles, slightly less than the 50% who cited cost. Nearly 40% of respondents also said integration and implementation concerns were their biggest challenge with autonomous AP initiatives.

“The pressure was visible in day-to-day AP operations,” the report added. “Although 89% of organizations reported at least partial AP automation, half still processed more than 5,000 invoices per month through workflows that were not fully automated. Gaps between systems can require manual intervention and erode the efficiency that automation is supposed to deliver.”
