On-demand delivery and retail firm Dada Group is launching an open digital logistics platform using a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model to speed up the digitization of the on-demand delivery space.

The development of the Dada Smart Delivery SaaS System was based on Dada Now’s Smart Logistics System and Big Data Platform and aims to boost delivery and management efficiency, according to a press release. The new platform offers integrated delivery solutions to help retail brands and delivery service providers handle operations, merchant and rider applications, and more.

“Dada’s Smart Delivery SaaS System aims to empower delivery service providers, enhance rider stickiness, and accelerate the industry’s digitalization,” according to the statement.

So far, over 100 businesses have signed on with the system to manage omnichannel orders, delivery capacity and dispatching, including JD Liquor World, Seven Fresh Supermarket, and Liansheng Group. The open on-demand delivery market in China is expected to grow at a compound annual average growth rate of 36 percent from 2020 to 2024, according to iResearch data.

“Leveraging the crowdsourcing model, it provides integrated delivery solutions including digitalized rider management, smart order recommendation and dispatching for retailers and service providers,” Dada said in the release.

On-demand retail has unique needs over regular eCommerce, which can make it difficult to efficiently manage delivery for offline fulfillment. Many retailers also don’t have the ability to develop and manage their own delivery systems.

Dada’s local instant retail platform JD Daojia is offered in 1,500 counties, districts and cities nationwide, according to Dada’s website.
