DoorDash Partners With Rite Aid For Same-Day Delivery

Delivery platform DoorDash is teaming up with convenience pharmaceutical company Rite Aid for delivery of everyday needs in as little as two hours, according to a Tuesday (May 11) press release.

“Amidst the pandemic, we accelerated our momentum into new categories to address consumers’ heightened needs for access to everyday health and wellness essentials,” said Fuad Hannon, head of new verticals at DoorDash. “As we continue to expand our offerings in the convenience space, we’re thrilled to partner with Rite Aid to provide their customers with on-demand access to their favorite products and a wide selection of home essentials delivered right to their doorsteps, in a matter of hours.”

Katie Finnegan, chief customer experience and eCommerce officer at Rite Aid, added that the company aims to extend to its customers as many delivery options as possible.

“Providing same delivery through DoorDash provides customers with the option to shop our full assortment of products from the convenience of their smartphones or computers, ensuring they can access Rite Aid anytime and anywhere they need to,” she said.

Rite Aid is available on the DoorDash subscription service, which offers members unlimited $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees from thousands of restaurants, grocery and convenience stores nationwide.

A lower number of people suffering from the cold and flu season last year was a driving force behind Rite Aid’s worse-than-anticipated fourth-quarter loss. Even though consumers needed more preventative health products, they also took better care of themselves.

The pandemic-fueled “bring it to me” economy has boosted delivery demand for everyday household and food staples as well as groceries and restaurant meals.

The new normal of delivery became evident amid the pandemic as app-based platforms took center stage. Recent PYMNTS data showed that 38 percent of consumers pivoted from eat-in restaurants to mobile food take-out via delivery or curbside pick-up.

DoorDash said in March that it was going to deliver COVID-19 tests after teaming up with two U.S.-based digital health companies — Vault Health and Everlywell — to distribute at-home test kits.
