Roblox Acquires Digital Gaming Community Startup Guilded

Online entertainment firm Roblox is working to close an acquisition deal for online gaming community connection startup Guilded, according to a press release on Monday (Aug. 16). Terms were not released.

“The Guilded team has a clear passion for empowering communities,” said David Baszucki, CEO of Roblox. “They have a great team and technology.”

Roblox is a global platform that connects millions via shared experiences. The tie-up with Guilded is anticipated to bring people the gaming community together on a single platform. 

“Our mission is to connect gaming communities, and Guilded allows communities to connect and communicate in new and meaningful ways,” said Eli Brown, founder and CEO of Guilded. “We’ve been working hard on new features and improvements, and we remain focused on providing the best experience we can for all of our communities.”

Guilded was founded in 2017 and has since created a single platform — complete with tools, voice and video chat, integrated calendars, and more — that connects gaming communities. The startup rolled out its bot API in March to facilitate the development of bots.   

The acquisition will have Guilded continue operations as an independent product group, according to the press release.

Roblox is on a mission to develop a “human co-experience platform” that connects users’ shared experiences.

“We believe in building a safe, civil, and diverse community — one that inspires and fosters creativity and positive relationships between people around the world,” according to the release.
