Consumers Can Use Google Pay on Groupon Starting in ’22

Google Pay

Groupon users will be able to access deals on Google Pay beginning in 2022, TheStreet reported. The deal sent Groupon shares surging.

Users of Google Pay will be able to access thousands of deals from Groupon, according to the report. The move will let small- to medium-sized business (SMB) owners connect with more customers. And Google Pay users will have a streamlined way to access Groupon.

“At Groupon, we’re focused on becoming the destination for local experiences by connecting consumers to merchants,” said interim CEO Aaron Cooper, per the report. “This new partnership with Google Pay will greatly expand our ability to help merchants reach new customers and make it easier for more consumers to tap into the thousands of experiences available in the Groupon marketplace.”

Groupon shares were up 9.7% at 24.90 each in pre-market trading Tuesday on the news, the report stated. Google shares were up 0.6% higher at $2,887 each.

In August, Groupon forged a partnership with Booksy, a beauty and wellness appointment app. The tie-up is intended to make it easier to book appointments with salons, spas and other services providers.

Groupon Chief Commercial Officer Brian Fields said the partnership would give the company the ability “to grow bookable inventory for one of Groupon’s most popular verticals, beauty and wellness, as well as provides our merchants with access to Booksy’s suite of scheduling and business management tools to help them grow their business.”

Groupon merchants making use of the new tech also get six-month subscriptions to Booksy for unlimited staff members, to manage bookings. And merchants can retain the free memberships with at least 10 Groupon bookings per month.

Retailers and merchants have been doing more with appointment software to help with a surge in consumer demand as the world reopens in the wake of the pandemic.
