British payments startup Checkout.com is rounding out its executive leadership team with digital currency and payments tech expert Meron Colbeci, formerly of Meta, according to a press release on Friday (Dec. 17).

Colbeci was the head of consumer product management at Meta’s Novi, a FinTech product group. Prior to joining Meta, he was also senior product leader at SoFi and PayPal. Colbeci has extensive experience in both crypto and fiat payments and will bring these skills to Checkout.com in a newly created position of chief product officer (CPO).

As CPO, Colbeci will be in charge of overseeing product management, product operations and design functions, both domestically and around the globe. His appointment is part of the company’s wider executive team expansion.

Other executive positions filled this year at Checkout.com include a new chief finance officer, chief human resources officer, chief marketing officer, chief revenue officer and chief technology officer. Per the release, the move aligns with its plan to stay focused on improving its cloud-based service offerings for enterprise-scale merchants anywhere in the world.

“At our core, we are passionate about the application of emerging technologies to solve real-world opportunities for enterprise merchants,” said Guillaume Pousaz, founder and CEO at Checkout.com.

Pousaz pointed to Colbeci’s background and expertise of being a “close partner and customer at Novi” in combination with his years of experience working with other FinTech leaders, adding that Colbeci is “well-positioned to take our product efforts to the next level … as we push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

In the release, Colbeci said he was drawn to the opportunity at Checkout.com because the company is devoted to alternative payment methods and emerging digital currency technologies and it has a distinguished vision for the future.

“Having worked with Checkout.com before, I had a good sense of how great the technology was and how capable the team was,” Colbeci said. “As I spent more time with Guillaume and the rest of the leadership team, I was inspired by the focus on building customer-first technologies that will help democratize access to the digital economy.”
