Twitter’s subscription plan is increasing from $2.99 to $4.99 for subscribers to Twitter Blue in an effort to help the social media platform build out new features and “sustain our mission of supporting journalism,” social media consultant Matt Navarra said in a Twitter post.

In his post showing an email sent to Twitter Blue subscribers, Navarra tweeted that the higher price is in effect for new subscribers now, but early adopters are locked into original pricing until October. Subscribers under the lower rate have at least 30 days to cancel before the new prices take effect.

Prices are increasing in the U.S. Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

The Twitter Blue email sent to subscribers also points to a “more frictionless reading experience” among changes being rolled out and additional features in Twitter Blue Labs.

Subscribers to Twitter Blue get add-ons like a feature to undo tweets and fix typos, a customizable navigation bar, and a list of Top Articles shared by people users follow. There is also ad-free access to articles, and the ability to choose NFT profile pictures.

Twitter moved into a new subscriber-only element in May to let Super Follows creators build their in-app communities with Super Follows Spaces, PYMNTS reported. The feature enables creators to offer “an extra layer of conversation” through live audio engagement.

The Super Followers-only spaces will have a different color and display that it’s a Super Follower-only broadcast. While non-paying subscribers can see the broadcasts are being shared, they will have to sign on as a Super Follower to get full access.
