Visa to Hire 1,000 Workers for New Atlanta Office

Visa plans to hire 1,000 workers to staff the company’s new Atlanta offices.

The expansion is part of Visa’s goal to have a strong presence in the communities “where it does meaningful business,” the company said in a Wednesday (Feb. 8) news release.

“Atlanta, for instance, is a rising fintech hub — one that more than 70 payment processing companies already call home,” Visa said. “For us, it’s good business to move into the neighborhood where our clients have set up shop.”

The hiring, which will take place over the next few years, is happening as other players in Visa’s field are cutting jobs.

PayPal, for example, slashed 2,000 jobs last month, following months of earnings reports in which company officials cited increased headwinds, such as inflation and a post-pandemic resumption of in-person shopping.

Visa first announced the Atlanta office in 2021, as the company prepared to move to a city that’s considered — as PYMNTS noted at the time — the “Silicon Valley of the South.”

“More than good business, our new home in Midtown Atlanta helps immensely on the recruiting front,” the company said Wednesday.

“With strong payments infrastructure comes a large network of tech talent with a payments background — and with more than a quarter of the tech workforce being Black or Latinx, Atlanta is one of the most diverse tech communities in the country,” Visa said in the announcement.

In addition to the Atlanta office, Visa says it will also open a new office in Washington D.C., combining staff from its former Arlington, Va. and D.C. offices.

“We believe that the future of money is digital, and our new D.C. outfit demonstrates our commitment to the importance of public-private partnerships in making digital money work best for individuals and communities around the world,” the company said.

Also Wednesday, Visa debuted a series of automatic savings and discounts for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Visa Small Business cardholders enrolled in Visa SavingsEdge can access offers from Bench Accounting, Yahoo! and Authorize.net, the company said in a news release.

“With Visa SavingsEdge, when small businesses use their business card, they can take advantage of offers and discounts with key business-related suppliers while helping to support their bottom line,” Veronica Fernandez, Visa senior vice president and North America head of business solutions.

One of the new offers is available for just two days: Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12. Authorize.net, Visa’s small business digital payment management platform, will give discounts valued up to $5,000 per small business to those who sign up during those days.
