Wirecard AG Expands mPOS Reach

Wirecard AG announced yesterday (March 30) that it is expanding the reach of its mPOS products to include another payment tablet.

This specific tablet is developed by AEVI International GmbH, a subsidiary of Wincor Nixdorf, and will implement AEVI’s payment terminal “Albert” and support this in the form of payment and acquiring services.

The Albert payment terminal is a multifunctional payment tablet based on the Android platform, which features an integrated card reader and receipt printer — along with a feature to encrypt touchscreen PIN entry. It can also manage physical and digital card payments that align with PCI standards. This includes chip-and-PIN and swipe-and-sign, as well as contactless payments using NFC tech.

These terminals also use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, 3G and Wi-Fi. This allows businesses to download the pre-installed B2B apps in the new AEVI marketplace. Retailers can also use this app to centralize their back-office needs.

“We look forward to our strategic partnership with Wirecard, which grants us access to an international network, as well as mobile technologies and applications. Albert is more than just a payment terminal. The apps in our new marketplace, which we will be presenting at the Money20/20 trade fair, are what makes the product unique. Transactions become interactions. The possibilities are endless,” said Hans Langenhuizen, global sales and marketing director at AEVI.

Jörn Leogrande, EVP of mobile services at Wirecard, commented: “AEVI’s multichannel POS terminal supports our objective of using the latest technologies and products in order to support our customers and partners with the digitization of their business processes. We found the multitude of possibilities offered by the terminal to be particularly appealing. For example, we can integrate our own payment and loyalty apps, in addition to further applications available via our network of partners. In this way, we have a suitable solution to meet the needs of each and every merchant and industry.”
