Digital River’s New CFO Comes From Groupon

Digital River announced yesterday (June 24) the appointment of Hoke Horne as the company’s new chief financial officer. Horne will be responsible for the company’s accounting, finance, tax, corporate development and enterprise operations activities. He joins Digital River from eCommerce marketplace Groupon.

“We are pleased to welcome Hoke to our leadership team,” said David Dobson, Digital River’s chief executive officer. “His significant financial and operational expertise, as well as his deep background in enterprise software and recent experience at a leading eCommerce company, make him a natural fit for Digital River. His experience will be an asset in helping us drive our performance forward, further our transformation and grow our presence in the global eCommerce market.”

Digital River was taken private earlier this year by an investor group led by Siris Capital Group. The company’s payment solutions unit operates with a single payments connection. The platform includes checkout page optimization, real-time fraud detection and back office reconciliation functions. Last year, Digital River said, the company’s online transaction volumes totaled more than $35 billion across 240 countries and territories.

At Groupon, Hones served as vice president of global commercial finance and chief financial officer of North America. Prior to Groupon, he served as Vice President of Software Finance and Pricing Strategy at Juniper Networks, and held management positions in other companies such as Microsoft Corp., McKinsey & Company and Andersen Consulting, now Accenture.

“Digital River has a long history of delivering world-class eCommerce, online payments and emarketing solutions to businesses around the world,” said Horne. “I am excited to join a company that is positioned at the center of a rapidly evolving industry and look forward to helping drive new levels of profitability and growth while delivering increased levels of value for our clients.”

The company also announced in May the expansion of its services globally in two parts: by adding a deeper level of strategic consulting for custom eCommerce implementations and allowing for integrations with third-party solutions. In this context, Digital River recently appointed Hayden Reed as senior vice president and general manager of Digital River World Payments as well as Joydeep Haldar as its SVP of global professional services.
