SpaceXAI’s Grok Bot Gains Early Traction in AI Agent Push

SpaceXAI’s Grok Bot surpassed 400,000 weekly users about a month after its launch, offering an early measure of demand for the company’s push into artificial intelligence agents, Bloomberg reported Tuesday (Sept. 22).

SpaceXAI introduced Grok Bot in mid-August as the company moved to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic in the growing market for AI agents, according to the report. Unlike conventional chatbots, the product is designed to handle workplace tasks, such as responding to emails, updating sales databases, processing invoices, organizing work and filing software bugs.

The company is positioning Grok Bot primarily as an enterprise product, offering it through multiple AI subscription tiers while also making it available as a standalone application, the report said. That approach differs from Meta’s Muse, a more consumer-oriented AI product that topped Apple’s App Store rankings. Bloomberg Intelligence estimated Muse has been downloaded four times as often as Grok Bot.

The rollout comes as SpaceXAI expands its AI operations. The company released Grok 4.5 in July, targeting coding, finance and legal work, and introduced Grok 4.7 earlier this month for more demanding tasks over longer periods, according to the report. The company has also pursued acquisitions and integrations aimed at expanding its AI capabilities.

The Grok Bot rollout follows a broader push by SpaceX to build an AI business around its acquisition of Cursor and its integration with xAI. Grok 4.5 was developed alongside Cursor and designed for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work, PYMNTS reported in July.

That relationship has since become more complicated, however. PYMNTS reported in August that OpenAI was ending its agreement to supply AI models to Cursor following SpaceX’s acquisition of the coding startup, citing concerns about whether SpaceX would comply with OpenAI’s terms of service. OpenAI said the contract is expected to wind down Nov. 12.
