PayPal: No More Mobile Check Deposits

Earlier this week, PayPal announced that it would no longer be offering a mobile check deposit feature. A recent article Consumerist article reported that one of its own employees had previously used the feature with PayPal, and received a short notification from the company about the change.

    The notification said that as of June 15, PayPal’s Mobile Check Capture service would no longer be available, however, customers could still have access to your transaction history of the checks they had captured through PayPal.

    According to the news source, PayPal responded to their inquiries for a comment, and confirmed that as of June 12, 2014 it was no longer offering the Check Capture capability. Additionally, the organization said that as of June 15, customers will not be able to deposit checks into their PayPal accounts using the Mobile Check Capture feature in the PayPal App.

    “Checks have become a less common way to pay for things and many of our customers have either fully moved away from checks or have other ways to pay,” the company said in the statement. “In doing this, it allows us to focus on our primary mission, creating a truly digital economy – whether shopping online, paying a friend, or using a mobile device to pay.”
