Amazon One Palm Scanning Tech Moves Into Entertainment With AXS Collab

Amazon is taking its palm scanning technology, Amazon One, out of the retail aisles and into entertainment venues through a partnership with ticketing solutions firm AXS.

The collaboration brings the “first-ever palm-based ticketing platform” to live entertainment events, including at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver. AXS is positioning freestanding contactless ticketing stations that eventgoers can use to identify themselves and confirm entry using their palms, per a company press release on Tuesday (Sept. 14).

Dilip Kumar, vice president of physical retail and technology at Amazon, said in the release that the collaboration with AXS gives fans “more time to get settled and enjoy the show.”

While the Red Rocks Amphitheatre is the first run, AXS plans to install the palm-reading stations at more of the 350-plus venues the company partners with as a ticketing agent, as the desire for contactless ticketing and entry is expected to continue growing.

Aside from making the experience more hygienic, Amazon One also makes the process faster. Users have a dedicated line for entry into a venue, and all they have to do is wave their palms over the device. The vision technology uses custom-built algorithms and hardware to “create a person’s unique palm signature,” which is secure and takes about a second, according to the release.

Bryan Perez, CEO of AXS, said Amazon One comes to the industry during a time when there is demand for “fast, convenient and contactless ticketing solutions.”

“At AXS, we are continually deploying new technologies to develop secure and smarter ticketing offerings that improve the fan experience before, during and after events,” Perez said.
