Amazon Prime Goes Live in Poland

Amazon has rolled out its Amazon Prime service in Poland with free delivery and video streaming, Reuters reported.

The news resulted in Polish eCommerce rival Allegro’s shares dropping by 3.7%, according to the report.

The Polish Amazon site went live in March and has given competition a shot in the arm in the country, the report stated. Amazon said it’s pricing its Prime service in Poland at 49 zlotys (about $12.35) per year.

Pawel Szpigiel, an mBank analyst, said the announcement from Amazon about the new Prime service was a surprise, according to the report. He said the eCommerce giant looks to have a big appetite for Poland’s market.

“We are very pleased with the way Polish customers accepted the Amazon.pl service launched at the beginning of this year,” Amazon.pl CEO Mourad Taoufiki said in a statement, per the report.

Microbusinesses and SMBs now make up around 45% of the Singapore B2C value of eCommerce exports. The current trends could result in 5% growth per year and could reach about $1.2 billion by 2026.
