New Travel App Ranking A Who’s Who Of OTAs And Hospitable Brands

While not technically a “factory” we are terribly, really, very busy at the PYMNTS Provider Ranking Research Facility lately. You may have noticed. And it continues.

Welcome to the inaugural PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Travel Apps. Readers have been hounding us for this particular ranking for a while as thoughts turn ever more to vacations (remember those?) we plan to take — as soon as we get the COVID all-clear airhorn.

Awaiting that glorious day in the very near future, let’s go walkabout through this app ranking.

The Top 5

Not entirely unexpected at No. 1 is big Booking.com as late 2020 pacts with the likes of Conferma Pay and Amadeus speed the process. No. 2 goes to the Vrbo app, short for “Vacation Rental By Owner” and showing the popularity of such accommodations.

No. 3 is the Airbnb marketplace, and on its tail at No. 4 is Hopper, the mobile app that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to predict and analyze airfare and accommodations prices.

Finishing out the Top 5 in this very first edition of PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Travel Apps is app-ly named Hotels.com taking the No. 5 spot.

The Top 10

We fly on to find the Skyscanner app with tray tables in their upright and locked position at No. 6, with mammoth TripAdvisor stopping for the night at No. 7. Will they stay? Too soon to say.

It had to be here somewhere, and so it is. Popular KAYAK paddles furiously against high travel prices at No. 8, while the HotelTonight same-day reservation app is sanguine at No. 9.

Last is never least in the PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Travel Apps, and that absolutely applies to FlightAware, the real-time flight status and tracking map app, snagging No. 10.

We’re done for now, and you have flights and rooms to book. Download an app and get to it.
