    According to a December 2009 survey, 64.8 percent of markets and publishers reported planning to invest in mobile apps in 2010.

    Croned stressed that best-in-class mobile applications, like Target, focus on GPS. Forty-nine percent of mobile retail application users want to use retail apps to find the nearest store location.

    “In old-school retailing, it was about location, location, location. In a saturated retail environment, it’s about locating, locating, locating,” he said.

    In addition, 67 percent of mobile retail application users want to use apps to look up and verify product availability at a particular store, and 57 percent want to use them to find the price of an item while in a store.
