Will Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown Face Off for a Senate Seat in 2012?

May 24, 2011

The Democratic party in Massachusetts has been reeling ever since Republican Scott Brown won the seat of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. Now, many in the party see Elizabeth Warren as the best bet to oust Brown, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper states Warren is possibly interested in running, according to a Democratic source. Republicans have been critical of Warren and her efforts to set up the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“Brown, in particular, criticized the White House for avoiding the Senate confirmation process by naming Warren a ‘special adviser’ to the bureau,” reports the Los Angeles Times. “Adding Warren, Democrats hope, would force the GOP to spend money to defend the seat. Brown is amassing a significant war chest—and he has yet to draw a top-tier opponent.”

Boston Democratic Mayor Tom Menino stated last week that he felt Brown would be difficult to beat.

“You know, I get criticized by my colleagues in the Democratic Party because I’m honest about it,” Menino said. “I just say it’s very difficult right now to think about who can beat him.
