Square Poaches Visa CMO

Kevin Burke, Visa’s Chief Marketing Officer for its core products, has jumped to Square where he will “head up acquisition channels,” according to a statement Square issued on Tuesday (Dec. 9).

“Square is transforming the way people buy and sell around the world,” Burke said. “I’m really excited to join Square as they continue to deliver on their promise to make commerce easy while helping independent businesses thrive.”

According to Burke’s LinkedIn profile—which still shows him as being with Visa, so it’s not necessarily updated very often—he has held the Visa Chief Marketing Officer for two years, but he’s been with Visa eight years. Before his CMO role, he spent four years as Visa’s “head of global consumer marketing” and, before that, two years as a Visa senior VP of advertising.

Prior to Visa, he held a series of marketing agency roles, including three years as the CEO of Tonic360, three years as a group account director for McCann (formerly Anderson Lembke) and three years as a VP with Draftfcb (formerly Foote, Cone & Belding).
