Perfect Corp Teams With Google To Help Consumers Virtually Try On Makeup

Perfect Corp. Teams With Google On AR Makeup Try-On Experience

Beauty technology company Perfect Corp. has teamed with Google on the rollout of augmented reality (AR) beauty try-ons via Google search, according to a Tuesday (June 1) announcement.

“We are thrilled partner with Google to make AR virtual beauty trials readily available through Google search,” Perfect Corp. Founder and CEO Alice Chang said in the announcement. “It’s a privilege to collaborate with the powerhouse Google to put YouCam’s AR technology in front of millions of beauty fanatics searching for products online, to help them discover and experiment with these products in a new, fun, and interactive way.”

The Google AR-fueled virtual try-on experience is encapsuled directly into the search experience, letting users have the choice to test the product throughout a spectrum of various skin tones or “try it on” themselves through the live camera mode.

The single-click experience lets web users digitally test out thousands of eye and lip beauty products from over 40 beauty brands such as Black Opal, Charlotte Tilbury, MAC Cosmetics and Estee Lauder, among others.

News of Perfect Corp.’s collaboration with Google comes as Pinterest is debuting an AR tool to help users evaluate and compare eyeshadow.

“The future of shopping will rely on online shopping experiences that are similar to that of in-store and complement that joy we find in browsing, seeing curated collections, and trying on products until we find what’s best for us,” the social media platform said in a January announcement.

The launch comes after the success of Pinterest’s try-on technology for lipstick, which was rolled out in 2020. Pinterest is now providing shoppable eyeshadow Pins that highlight products from YSL, Lancome, NYX Cosmetics and Urban Decay, as reported in January.

As PYMNTS previously reported, augmented reality is finding some killer applications amid the pandemic, most notably in the cosmetics and automotive businesses. Recent developments in both categories illustrate striking progress for the technology.
