Plastiq Names Ex Amex OPEN Business Chief as President

Kerry Hatch

Payment platform Plastiq announced on Wednesday (Sept. 22) that it has selected a former American Express president to serve as its new president and board member.

Kerry Hatch, whose background includes more than 30 years of strategy and operating experience in the financial services, technology, media, data and service industries, will guide the company’s product, engineering, talent, operations, business development and go-to-market tasks. She will navigate the next stage of the company as Plastiq rolls out new features for its payments platform, which enables 150,000 small and medium-sized businesses to make purchases even in instances where cards are not accepted. The API-powered solution enables its customers to embed card- and bank-funded payment options into the platform.

Hatch has worked for most of her career at American Express. While serving as president of American Express, she introduced and expanded the company’s OPEN: The Small Business Network into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. Prior to joining Plastiq, Hatch also served as CEO of a private equity-backed entertainment company, president of St. Regis & Luxury Collection Hotels, CEO of QSP at Time, Inc. and COO of global client services at Acxiom.

She is also a board member of social payments company Fevo and a board observer and investor at Grata, a search engine for finding small to middle-market private businesses.

“As an advisor to Plastiq for many years, Kerry is well-versed in the goals of our company as well as the financial technology and payments industries,” said Eliot Buchanan, Plastiq’s CEO and co-founder. “Kerry’s expertise and leadership will be vital for our next phase of growth and achieving our mission for helping SMBs grow and succeed.”

Earlier this year, Plastiq, in conjunction with its effort to simplify the digital payment process, announced a partnership with Billfire, as PYMNTS reported. As part of the joint effort, Billfire integrates Plastiq technology into its accounts receivable automation solution and supports card acceptance without charging a merchant fee.
