Account-to-account payment company GoCardless has appointed ex-Mastercard executive Paul Stoddart as its new president, a press release said Thursday (May 5).

Stoddart’s job at Mastercard was president of the company’s New Payment Platforms, executive chair of Vocalink and also a member of the Mastercard Management Committee.

At GoCardless, he’ll be in charge of the go-to-market organization including the Strategy, Sales, Product, Marketing and Customer teams.

And he’ll work on accelerating growth and achieving the company’s goals on expanding around the world.

The release notes that GoCardless is expanding its offering of direct bank payment solutions. The company wants to keep growing in account-to-account payments, and the release says it will debut its Variable Recurring Payment feature in the U.K. soon, along with expanding one-off payment feature Instant Bank Pay across Europe.

At Mastercard’s New Payment Platforms, Stoddart worked on establishment and growth of that business unit, which helped Mastercard evolve its role in payments beyond cards to account-to-account payments.

He also previously worked at Barclaycard as co-head of corporate finance.

Hiroki Takeuchi, co-founder and CEO with GoCardless, said the company’s goal this year is to “serve a broader range of customer segments and payment use cases.”

“Paul has a unique depth of experience across both card and non-card payments and is well-positioned to help us seize the opportunities that will make GoCardless a force to be reckoned with in the payments space.”
