Icelandair has collaborated with InsurTech firm Cover Genius to provide an embedded “Covid Plus” Cover for their global customers, according to an announcement emailed to PYMNTS.
“As a leading international airline, our mission is to offer our passengers the best services both on the ground and in the air. Our integration of Cover Genius’ XCover platform into our booking process means we can now offer our passengers and their travel partners peace of mind during their travel,” Birna Ósk Einarsdóttir, CCO Sales and Customer experience of Icelandair, said in the announcement.
The Icelandair “Covid Plus” Medical Cover will be available via an integration with the Cover Genius XCover global insurance distribution platform. The coverage has been designed for Icelandair worldwide customers to make sure that travelers and their companions are covered in the event that they require medical attention, such as if they catch COVID-19 or a different illness or injury on their travels, according to the announcement.
The coverage will launch first in Europe, followed by the Americas and Canada.
Cover Genius also says that Icelandair’s worldwide customers will be able to use its claims technology that instantly pays out claims in 90+ currencies.
“We are very excited to partner with Icelandair, a leading airline with its hub in Keflavík, Iceland with substantial US bookings, who prioritize their customers’ safety and loyalty through the use of our XCover platform and we look forward to expanding our relationship to restore confidence for [travelers] all over the world,” Peter Smith, head of travel partnerships, EMEA at Cover Genius, said in the announcement.
Skyscanner, Wayfair, Descartes ShipRush, Intuit and eBay are among some of Cover Genius’ partners, according to the announcement.
The news comes as PYMNTS’ Retail Product Insurance study discovered that over 60 percent of eCommerce shoppers would purchase insurance with their online purchases if that option was provided at checkout. And an overwhelming majority of those who purchased insurance from merchants at checkout — 83 percent of respondents — indicated they were “more likely” to purchase insurance for future eCommerce purchases if provided at checkout.
